VIDEO: Positive Ross Hopeful for Walsh Jennings

Moscow, Russia, May 28, 2015 - After April Ross signed a score sheet forfeiting a match here Thursday mid-day to the Brazilian Salgado sisters due to a shoulder injury for her partner Kerri Walsh Jennings, the American Olympian moved on to the media interview area at the Moscow Grand Slam to speak more about the status of her Beach Volleyball team.As the defending champions of the Moscow Grand Slam with Walsh Jennings, Ross is disappointed that her team will not have the opportunity to continue playing for another spot on the podium Sunday in the Russian capital.“Yes, I am disappointed since this week’s tournament is the best one I have played in Moscow,” said Ross, a 2009 FIVB world champion and silver medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games with Jen Kessy.  “The venue is the best we have had in Moscow and the hotel is great.  I am disappointed that Kerri and I could not continue playing for another medal.”As for Walsh Jennings, Ross said she “is actually feeling pretty good.  We are both very positive and Kerri is just taking precaution about going home to make sure she is okay.  She has had other shoulder injuries years ago and she says this one feels better.  We are both positive.”With the FIVB “senior” Beach Volleyball World Championships starting next month in The Netherlands (June 26-July 5), Ross said the team will miss next week’s FIVB World Tour stop in Croatia (Porec).  “The goal is to be back for the world championships or sooner,” said Ross, “so we are not going to play next week.”Following the Croatian stop and before the world championships, the second SWATCH “Major” Series event will be played in Norway (Stavanger, June 9-14) followed by a FIVB World Tour Grand Slam stop in the United States (St. Petersburg, Florida, June 16-21).The Moscow Grand Slam was Ross and Walsh Jennings’ 15th FIVB World Tour event together as the pair has compiled six gold medals and seven podium placements together.  The Americans, who have a 73-11 match mark together, opened the 2015 FIVB World Tour season by placing third in Fuzhou, China.
