Broder/Valjas jump up ranking after Fuzhou Open

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 29, 2015 - Victory at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Fuzhou Open has taken Jamie Lynn Broder and Kristina Valjas to the top of the 2015 FIVB World Tour Ranking for women. The Canadian pair earned 500 points at the season opener in China, while runners-up Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude claimed 450 and bronze medal winners Kerri Walsh and April Ross collected 400.

In the men's competition, Markus Böckermann and Lars Flüggen won gold in their first participation in a World Tour event as a team. The German pair now lead the men's World Tour Ranking, ahead of silver medallists and defending FIVB world champions Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen. Bronze medal winners Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson are in third position.

The FIVB World Tour Ranking is the ranking of teams based on the total FIVB Ranking Points earned by each player on that team in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events held in a season. The FIVB World Tour Ranking is updated after each FIVB World Tour event and determines the teams that have earned berths at the FIVB World Tour Season Final.

The Fuzhou Open results also mean that Böckermann and Flüggen are now 12th in the Season Ranking for men, three places above Dutch team Brouwer/Meeuwsen and seven above Krou and Rowlandson. Jesus Fañe/Jackson Henriquez (Venezuela), Carlos Rangel/Leonard Alexis Colina Chourio (Venezuela) and Esteban Grimalt/Marco Grimalt (Chile) lead the men's Season Ranking based on their results in events in South America.

Canadians Broder/Valjas are tenth in the women's Season Ranking, four places ahead of Fuzhou runners-up Laboureur and Sude. Walsh and Ross are 18th. Olaya Perez Pazo/Norisbeth Isais Agudo Gonzalez (Venezuela), Ana Gallay/Georgina Klug (Argentina), Maria Virginia Zonta/Cecilia Peralta (Argentina) and Andrea Galindo/Claudia Gorda Galindo (Colombia) currently lead the women's Season Ranking after events in South America.

The FIVB Beach Volleyball Rankings provide an objective scale of values of all athletes/teams participating in recognised beach volleyball events, on a merit basis.
 
FIVB Season Ranking points are earned by each player competing in any recognised beach volleyball event. The higher the tournament ranking, the higher the points earned - and the higher the level of the event, the higher the points that are available.
