News Beach volleyball 05/04/2013 World Tour returns to Argentina for Corrientes Grand Slam Corrientes, Argentina, April 5, 2013 – Injust a few weeks, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will return to Argentina.It will be the first time since 2000 that the country will hold a World Tourevent when players arrive for the inaugural Corrientes Grand Slam that runsfrom May 22 to 26. Corrientes, a city 1000-kilometres north ofBuenos Aires, is the second stop of the 2013 World Tour, taking place just twoweeks after the season opening Shanghai Grand Slam.Local favourites Maria Zonta and Ana Gallaywill aim to build on their experience from the London 2012 Olympic Games, butare likely to face stiff competition in the women’s competition from Olympicsilver medallists Jennifer Kessy and April Ross from the USA, China’s Zhang Xiand Chen Xue and Germany’s Ilka Semmler and Katrin Holtwick, who won theirfirst Tour gold medal at the end of 2012. The men’s competition is far more open,with a number of partnerships out to gain early World Tour points. PhilDalhausser won Olympic gold in 2008 with Todd Rogers, but is now playing withSean Rosenthal and they will be trying to build some early momentum ahead ofthe FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships that take place in July. London 2012 Olympic gold medallist JuliusBrink is another player starting out with a new partner, in his case SebastianFuchs, following Jonas Reckermann’s retirement on account of injury. ItaliansPaolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo will be aiming to build on an impressive end to2012, while world champions Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti will be out to findform ahead of the defence of their world crown later in the year. The 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will run over a six month periodand features 10 mixed-gender tournaments across four of the fiveconfederations, the last of which takes place in Sao Paolo, Brazil from October9 to13. The calendar also features the FIVB BeachVolleyball World Championships that take place in Stare Jablonki, Poland fromJuly 1 to 7. Following the completion of the Corrientes Grand Slam the World Tour moves toThe Netherlands for The Hague Grand Slam that runs from June 11 to 16.
