Beach volleyball rivalry blasts sky high

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., September 30, 2015 - With Beach Volleyball hitting a new high at the US$500,000 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals, Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena challenged their Brazilian rivals and FIVB world champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt to a private match here Wednesday afternoon.

The two teams, who played here Wednesday afternoon with Dalhausser and Lucena winning in a hard-fought three-set match, were found at a most spectacular and unexpected setting hours after the confrontation at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park - a massive helipad right in the heart of south Florida city surrounded by skyscrapers and Atlantic breezes.

The solitary setting was a contrast to the rollicking grandstands of the 4,000-seat Center Court at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park where two of the world’s top 20 teams entered in the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals were competing in a tournament where every match is like a preview of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals action continues for both men and women at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park through Sunday when the final two teams in each gender competes for the gold medal along with the $100,000 first-place prizes. For more coverage, please visit http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2015/10/02/phil-dalhausser-nick-lucena-alison-bruno-helipad-photos-beach-volleyball-olympics/
