Lausanne, Switzerland, January 19, 2015 – The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Open set to take place in Thailand from November 3 – 8 has been withdrawn from the calendar, while the Prague Open will now take place one week earlier following changes to the schedule.
It would have been the ninth time Thailand welcomed World Tour and first since the 2012 Phuket Open. The country has also welcomed four Challenger events, including one in 2014, as well as the 2003 FIVB Beach Volleyball Age Group World Championships.
Originally slated to take place from May 26 – 31, the single gender Women’s Prague Open will now be held from May 20-24. A regular on the World Tour, the Czech capital first welcomed the circuit in 2008 with a men’s only Open. This was repeated from 2010 – 2012 before the city welcomed the top women’s players in the world last season with home heroes Kristyna Kolocova and Marketa Slukova clinching gold.
The 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour begins in late April and will run until the FIVB World Tour Finals in USA. The pre-Olympic 2015 season will be highlighted by the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 from 26th of June until the 5th of July, with the cities of The Hague, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Rotterdam welcoming the world’s top players.
This year’s season will also feature five FIVB Grand Slams, a new FIVB Major Series involving four tournaments, a special FIVB World Tour Finals in the United States and six FIVB Opens.
