Track stars become beach volleyball fans

Fort Lauderdale, United States, October 4, 2015 - Red Bull brought U.S. Olympians Trey Hardee and Lolo Jones to Fort Lauderdale to witness the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals firsthand. Both track and field athletes quickly became beach volleyball fans.Hardee is a two-time world champion in the decathlon. The world’s best decathlete is considered the “world’s greatest athlete,” but Hardee is not sure he would make a good Beach Volleyball player.“It would be comically bad at first,” Hardee said. “Nothing I do is about reacting or catching anything. But I think I could eventually dial in a serve and get a point or two.”Jones has competed at the Summer Olympics as a 100m hurdler and at the Winter Olympics as a bobsledder. At the London 2012 Olympics, she had a ticket to see Beach Volleyball, but there was a last-minute conflict.“This totally makes up for it,” Jones said. “There is an amazing vibe. They have dance for every song, and everybody gets involved with it.”Jones, the most followed USA Track and Field Athlete on Twitter, utilized her social media expertise to host a takeover of Red Bull’s Snapchat account. She walked around the venue with Casey Patterson, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the action for fans. She appreciated Patterson’s energy and ability to interact with the crowd, but she was not impressed with his social media knowledge.“He doesn’t even know how to use Snapchat,” Jones said, laughing. “I should fire him, right?”
