Players compete for colourful SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals trophy

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., October 3, 2015 - The world’s best beach volleyball players receive many trophies. But the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals trophy would stand out in any collection.“We wanted a trophy that was unique,” said SWATCH Beach Volleyball Major Series CEO Hannes Jagerhofer. “It was important to use a local artist.”The trophy was created by Romero Britto, an internationally renowned pop artist who was born in Brazil and now has a gallery in Miami. It looks like a beach volleyball with four colorful panels. It sits on a gold, glittery base. The players saw the trophy for the first time at the FIVB Technical Meeting on Monday.“It is certainly different,” said American Phil Dalhausser. “I’ve never seen a trophy with glitter before.”Reviews of the trophy have been very positive.“It’s very colorful,” said FIVB Technical Supervisor Ed Drakich. “This trophy will be very special for whoever wins this tournament.”Germany’s Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst will play Brazil’s Talita Antunes/Larissa Franca for the women’s trophy on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Then Brazil’s Alison Cerutti/Bruno Oscar Schmidt will take on American’s Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena at 2:30 p.m. ET.
