Evandro and Pedro rebound for bronze medal finish

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., October 4, 2015 – A semifinal loss to their rival countrymen left Pedro Solberg and Evandro Goncalves with a bad taste in their mouths, but when they had a chance to make up for it a bit they made they most of it.The Brazilians put the pressure on from the beginning to score a 21-19, 21-14 win over Robert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer to become the World Tour Finals bronze medalists.“I am very happy. I was really sad yesterday when we lost in the semifinals. It really hurt,” Pedro said. “We wanted so much to make the final, but it’s part of the game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”Evandro and Pedro lost in the semifinals to FIVB World Champions Bruno Oscar Schmidt and Alison Cerutti, They never trailed in the first game against the Dutch, then used a 9-2 run in the second game and ended it with Evandro’s third ace of the match.“They put a lot of pressure on us from the beginning,” Brouwer said. “We were playing from behind from the start, we fought back but at the end the initiative was on their side the whole set.”The bronze medal came with a third-place prize of $30,000 for the Brazilians. The Dutch will split $15,000.“Today was a new day, we had a chance to get a bronze and it would be really bad if we didn’t make it today, so I’m very proud,” Pedro said.
