The 2013 FIVB world champions and bronze medal winners at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Brouwer and Meeuwsen qualified for the 2017 worlds via their international ranking. The pair will be seeking to reverse their placement in the 2015 worlds in their home country as the Dutchmen placed 17th. As one of four teams in the 2017 FIVB World Championships with at least 60 FIVB World Tour starts, have been playing together internationally since the 2011 campaign. Brouwer and Meeuwsen, who started playing in FIVB events in 2006 and 2007, respectively, have posted World Tour gold medal finishes in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
