Lome, Togo, June 30, 2012 - The CAVB organized a special workshop for the players participating at the 2012 CAVB Junior Beach Volleyball Cup in Lome, Togo on June 30.
The aim of the workshop was to allow the future stars of the sport to discover more about the beach volleyball, specifically, the rules and regulations of the game and to be familiar with the referees decision when they proceed to the world competitions.
This was the first ever workshop for players organised by Africa's volleyball governing body.
The workshop was conducted by international referees Hazem El Sherbini of Egypt, Hannington Nsubua of Uganda who both acted as the Referee Delegates alongside Giovanni Bake of South Africa.
The event started with a session on how the players should behave prior to, during and after the match, an important aspect for the young players to appear at their best during the championship.
The instructors then proceeded to discuss the proper uniform and the responsibilities of team captains during matches.
Sherbini, Hannington and Bake also discussed the different types of timeouts and how players should behave during each, especially the medical timeout and the referees decision if there is an injury during a game. They also talked them through pre and post match protocol.
The players had a lot of input in the discussions about the criteria of setting the ball overhand with fingers as it was the most crucial point in many cases.
The international referees then showed a presentation the cases of ball mark protocol and delaying of the game as well as cases of spiking and blocking.
Finally the young players had a special session to put their questions about all technical and official matters to the three instructors.
