Emanuel and Ricardo rule the sand in Salvador

Salvador, Brazil, March 29, 2015 – Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos added even more lustre to their already-impressive medal collections by claiming gold at the Salvador tournament on the Brazil Tour on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Emanuel and 40-year-old Ricardo defeated 2013 FIVB U21 world champions Gustavo ‘Guto’ Carvalhaes and Allison ‘Alliso’ Cittadin 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-11). Marcio Araujo and Saymon Barbosa won bronze with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) win over Oscar Guimaraes and Thiago Santos.

Emanuel and Ricardo have won a host of titles in the glittering careers including gold at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and 2003 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. With the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour starting in Fuzhou at the end of April they will now be in confident mood of accumulating more trophies in 2015.

“Over the last three tournaments I have seen that Ricardo and I have evolved,” Emanuel said. “I’m very proud of the new generation and the rivalry that they bring. They take any chance and have so much energy. We have a lot of promising young players and it is important that they continue to come through.”

Following the conclusion of the Salvador Tournament, the Brazil Tour concludes with the Super Beach Tournament in Maceio from April 27 until May 3.
