Wesselink calls an end to her career

Amsterdam, Netherlands, February 5, 2015 - Dutch beach volleyball athlete Marloes Wesselink has called an end to a career which began in earnest at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U18 Youth World Championships in 2004. Wesselink will begin a new career in marketing. Her teammate Laura Bloem hopes to qualify for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015 with another partner.

Speaking to volleybalkrant.nl, Wesselink said: “This is a great opportunity. I’m looking forward to the new job, but I regret the end of a very pleasant collaboration with Laura. We wanted to participate in the World Championships in 2015 and in the Rio Olympics in 2016, but this job fits my studies and is an opportunity I cannot miss out on.”

Commenting on their team website (bloem-wesselink.nl), Wesselink and Bloem said: “We unfortunately have to tell you all that Bloem/Wesselink will quit as a team. Not because we don’t like each other anymore, but Marloes has been offered a great job opportunity which she decided to take! While Marloes will start to live as an adult, Laura will check if it’s possible to work towards the World Championship with another partner. Thank you all for your positive energy that gave us the power to do what we love!”

In 2014, Wesselink and Bloem participated in eight FIVB Beach Volleyball Grand Slam events and four Open events.
