Pavan expecting no let up as round of 16 draws near

Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 2016 – Canada’s Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan recorded their second win at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat Switzerland’s Nadine Zumkehr and Joana Heidrich 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Tuesday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Sarah Pavan, Canada
“Switzerland are playing very well this tournament. They are playing very consistently. We expected them to come out extremely strong and knew we would have to execute at a high level to compete with them and I think we did. When things are flowing like that it feels good.

“Those injury breaks (for Joana Heidrich) are tough. They are momentum killers. We’ve had to play through a couple of those this season already. So we talked about and said ‘ok let’s not let get them into a rhythm,’ and I think we did that.

“We are out to win our group and put ourselves in a good position leading into play-offs. We are going to have to be on top of our game from here on out so we need a strong performance against Germany (Karla Borger and Britta Buthe) and then we’ll go from there.”

Joana Heidrich, Switzerland
“Now it is ok, not perfect, but ok. I was blocking and Sarah was attacking and she caught the muscle under my knee with her knee. I think it is ok for the next game. I have a day’s rest.

“I’m not really happy with my performance. I made a lot of mistakes and they made a lot of pressure with the serve and block defence, but I can do it better.”
