Ludwig & Walkenhorst keep rolling on Copacabana

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 11, 2016 - FIVB World Tour leaders Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst were extended to three sets here Thursday evening by Italians Laura Giombini and Marta Menegatti, but the Germans prevailed in the end to capture Pool D in the women’s Beach Volleyball competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

With their 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 15-9) win in 54 minutes, Ludwig and Walkenhorst maintained their fourth seed for the start of the elimination rounds to be played Friday and Saturday on Copacabana.  The Germans next opponent will be one of the two best third-place finishers in pool play.
