Herrera in dreamland after he and Gavira fight back to win

Rio de Janeiro, August 6, 2016 – Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira began their Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games campaign by beating Austria’s Alexander Huber and Robin Seidl 2-1 (14-21, 21-17, 15-13) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Saturday.

Here’s what they said after the match….

Adrian Gavira, Spain
“It was a good result. It was important we won the first match, but we made quite a few mistakes as I was quite nervous. We have to improve on Monday and Pablo helped me a lot with his blocking and defence, so we will see on Monday.”

Pablo Herrera, Spain
“I feel healthy and that is the most important thing. After London 2012 I had surgery on my knee, so I wouldn’t believe I would be here, but now I have recovered and feel healthy, strong and happy and we are winning.”

Alexander Huber, Austria
“I think we were focused on what we had to do and just tried to stay focused and think about the game because there is so much going on around and the atmosphere is great and there are a lot of people in the stadium.”
