First Olympic win just the start for Slukova and Hermannova

Rio de Janeiro, August 10, 2016 – Czech Republic’s Marketa Slukova and Barbara Hermannova secured third place in their pool at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games with a 2-1 (13-21, 21-19, 15-8) win over Argentina’s Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug at Copacabana Beach Arena on Wednesday.

“I think after the first set we showed some good volleyball and fought together. It is a good victory and now we advance from the pool to the next round. We can play one more match in this amazing stadium and we hope we can stay as long as possible.

“Just making it to the Olympics was really exciting for our team. We haven’t played together for very long and to be here after less than a year is a great experience as a team. To have at least one victory is very encouraging.”

Barbara Hermannova, Czech Republic
“We just said we had to stat totally anew because I knew I didn’t want to finish the Olympic Games like this. I was not happy so I tried to switch off some feelings that I had from the first set and just focus on each ball.”
