Elsa and Liliana win fight to open victoriously

Rio de Janeiro, August 6, 2016 – Spain’s Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez began their Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games campaign with a 2-0 (21-11 21-19) victory over Argentina’s Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Saturday.

Here’s what they said after the match….

Elsa Baquerizo, Spain
“They are very tough and very good and we expected it to be tight in the first set, but maybe everybody was nervous. We expected it to be a hard work, but we made it.

“We knew the second set would be tight, but we prepared well and were prepared to fight.

“I think we did a great defence and had a great strategy and I think we didn’t make a lot of mistakes and our serve was great, I think we did a good job. My partner played great and I’m so proud of her.”

Georgina Klug, Argentina
“I’m happy to be playing so close to home and a lot of people came to see us play, family, friends and lots of Argentinian fans.

“It was a crazy game and we started playing different from how we normally play, maybe because we were a little bit nervous. The second was show we normally play, fighting and serving well and defending well.”
