Crowd lifts Alison and Bruno to new heights

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 13, 2016 – Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt booked their place in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games quarterfinals with a 2-0 (24-22, 21-13) win over Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Saturday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Bruno Schmidt, Brazil
“It was so good especially in the first set. It was a hard set, but the crowd gave us a lot of support, which means a lot for us.

“We tried as hard as possible to turn the score in the first set and the crowd helped us. They helped us win this match.

“We are so concentrated on our match, but when we stop for a while and take a look around us it is amazing.”

Adrian Gavira, Spain
“It was difficult because they are world champions, it isn’t so much the surrounding. We tried our best and it is enjoyable to play here, but yes it is tough facing the world champions.

“It is great to play here whether the crowd is with you or against you. It puts a great focus on beach volleyball and great to play in a place like this.”
