Buthe and Borger aim to keep drive going

Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 2016 – Germany’s Britta Buthe and Karla Borger recorded their first win at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat the Netherlands’ Sophie van Gestel and Jantine van der Vlist 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Tuesday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Britta Buthe, Germany
“I think it is really good for us, for our confidence to get a win here. To win against a solid team, to know that we’re here now, we can win on centre court and that the tournament can start for us now.

“We know each other on the court and off the court. You are close to your opponents off the courts but on the court you have to ignore this and fight.

“We have to find a mix between taking some confidence from this game and not letting go of this tension because we got into a mood to play well and I think if we let go, it is too early to let go. Maybe we still can push a little more and improve.”
