Borger & Buthe quick turn-around artists

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 11, 2016 - Sixty-four minutes after finishing a pool play match, Germany’s Karla Borger and Britta Buthe were back playing on the center court in the Beach Volleyball competition at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with one purpose - stayin’ alive to play another match on Copacabana.

After losing a two-set Pool E match to Canada’s Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan to conclude their group schedule late Thursday evening, the Germans had to win a “lucky losers” match early Saturday morning to advance to the 16-team women’s elimination round against Norisbeth Agudo and Olaya Pazo of Venezuela.

Less than two hours after losing, the Borger and Buthe were winning with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-8) victory over Agudo and Pazo in 30 minutes.  With the win, Germans will be back playing 15 ½ hours later against top-seeded Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca in a “Sweet 16” match Friday afternoon.
