Austrian pair go full circle from opening loss

Rio de Janeiro, August 10, 2016 – Austria’s Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst secured their second win at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games with a 2-1 (21-19, 16-21, 15-8) victory over Canada’s Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter at Copacabana Beach Arena on Wednesday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Alexander Horst, Austria
“The first game against Italy (Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Carambula) we played really badly and they played really good. From the second game on versus Alison (Cerutti) and Bruno (Schmidt, Brazil) we saw we can play good and we’ve been in a good mood since.

“Today was just a big fight. We’ve never played beach volleyball so late and in the dark and rain. It was so tough for us because we woke up at nine o’clock in the morning and the days gets really, really long when you sit in the appartment and it is five o’clock and you think ‘still seven hours to go’.

“Today I don’t think we played our best beach volleyball, but we were fighting till the end and I’m so happy we won.”

Josh Binstock, Canada
“We have the grit, we have the skill, we have the fight, the spirit, we’re just missing the adjustments being made quicker and proper adjustments. We are doing some things but it is too little too late and we’re not being able to close out matches.”
