The “fight for the fort” ends in Rio

 
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 31, 2015 - The "fight for the fort" ends here this week at the US$150,000 Rio Open on Copacabana beach with the eighth and final women's berth from the FIVB World Tour rankings to be decided between teams from Spain, Germany and China.The "fight for the fort" is for the $500,000 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals event to be played in the United States in south Florida at "Fort" Lauderdale where the 10-team competitions features the top eight teams on the point's list from the 2015 international circuit for both men and women with two "wild card" pairs to be selected for both gender's tournaments.The inaugural SWATCH World Tour Finals, the fourth and final event on the 2015 SWATCH Major Series schedule, will be played September 29 through October 4 in Fort Lauderdale next to the iconic Yankee Clipper Hotel.Spain's Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez hold the advantage over Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude of Germany and Fan Wang/Yuan Yue of China entering this week's Rio Open.  Being a "test" event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Copacabana beach, Baquerizo and Liliana hold a 190-point lead over the Germans and a 310-point edge over Wang and Yue.
