News Beach volleyball 28/10/2013 Phuket is back with Sweden's Grawender and Lundqvist entering qualification in top spot Phuket,Thailand, October 28, 2013 – Sweden’s Nina Grawender and Karin Lundqvist top the qualificationtournament rankings on the eve of the single gender women’s competition at thepenultimate FIVB Beach Volleyball Open of 2013. The Open series women’s eventis back in Thailand for its eighth consecutive year, taking place from October28 to November 3.Sweden’sGrawender and Lundqvist edged up the rankings this week after reaching theknock-out stages at the Xiamen Grand Slam. They aim to build on their momentumand close the year on a high.TeresaMersmann and Isabel Schneider were part of a strong German showing in Xiamenlast week and made it all the way to round 2 in the knock-outs. Unluckily thisis where they met Talita/Lima (BRA)which left the pair with a ninth place finish. Alsokeep an eye on TakemiNishibori and Sayaka Mizoe. The Japanese pair had their best result of the yearwith ninth at the Anapa Open and Nishibori competes in Phuket for the seventhtime.Thailand has hostedover 10 women’s and one men’s FIVB tournament. Overall, the USA has been themost successful with 10 medal finishes in the seven FIVB World Tour events heldin Phuket.The tournamentpreviously ran from 2006 until 2011, when the event moved to Bangsaen in 2012.China’s Chen Xue and Zhang Xi won the 2011 edition, while Jennifer Kessy andApril Ross were victorious in 2012.
