News Beach volleyball 24/08/2013 Italy send home World Tour leaders Lima and Talita Moscow, Russia, August 24, 2013 – Italy’s new teamMarta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth put an end to Taiana Lima and TalitaAntunes’ dreams of a third consecutive Grand Slam title this year. The Italian girls knocked out the leading World Tour team in the secondelimination round of the FIVB Moscow Grand Slam on Saturday, winning 2-0 (21-1726-24). Brazil managed to come back in the second set after the match was interruptedfor over an hour because of thunderstorms, but Menegatti and Orsi Toth wardedoff several set points to claim victory in two sets after all. First important match “It was a crazy match”, Orsi Toth said. “It was my first important match and Iam very, very happy. It was a very difficult match with the wind and the rain,but we just wanted to win. I think that was the key today.” While Orsi Toth’s career best was 17th with Laura Giombini last year in Rome,Menegatti won bronzes and silvers before with Greta Cicolari and the Europeantitle in 2011. A few weeks ago the pair broke up after four and a half seasons and Menegattidecided to start all over again with Orsi Toth, with whom she won silver at theJunior World Championships in 2010. At their first event, the Long Beach GrandSlam, they finished 25th. Same age “This is only our second tournament together”, 23-year old Menegatti said. “Butwe have the same age and we feel very close inside and outside the court. Ithink for now this is our strength.” Menegatti thinks their aggressive play got them this far in Moscow. “I have nowords for it, we are very, very happy.
