Italy send home World Tour leaders Lima and Talita

Moscow, Russia, August 24, 2013 – Italy’s new team
Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth put an end to Taiana Lima and Talita
Antunes’ dreams of a third consecutive Grand Slam title this year.

The Italian girls knocked out the leading World Tour team in the second
elimination round of the FIVB Moscow Grand Slam on Saturday, winning 2-0 (21-17
26-24).

Brazil managed to come back in the second set after the match was interrupted
for over an hour because of thunderstorms, but Menegatti and Orsi Toth warded
off several set points to claim victory in two sets after all.

First important match

“It was a crazy match”, Orsi Toth said. “It was my first important match and I
am very, very happy. It was a very difficult match with the wind and the rain,
but we just wanted to win. I think that was the key today.” While

Orsi Toth’s career best was 17th with Laura Giombini last year in Rome,
Menegatti won bronzes and silvers before with Greta Cicolari and the European
title in 2011.

A few weeks ago the pair broke up after four and a half seasons and Menegatti
decided to start all over again with Orsi Toth, with whom she won silver at the
Junior World Championships in 2010. At their first event, the Long Beach Grand
Slam, they finished 25th.

Same age

“This is only our second tournament together”, 23-year old Menegatti said. “But
we have the same age and we feel very close inside and outside the court. I
think for now this is our strength.”

Menegatti thinks their aggressive play got them this far in Moscow. “I have no
words for it, we are very, very happy. We played very good, improved game by
game and now we don’t want to stop.
So we have to win the next game.”
