Olympic champ out of Gstaad with injury

Gstaad, Stare Jablonki, July 9, 2013 – Olympic champion Julius Brink has been forced out of the Gstaad Grand Slam after aggravating an old injury on Tuesday.

Brink was due to play with Sebastian Fuchs in the qualification rounds where they were ranked third behind Brazil’s Vitor Felipe and Evandro Goncalves and Dutch duo Daan Spijkers and Christiaan Varenhorst, but will now be replaced by Eric Koreng.

They played the first three tournaments of the year, but Brinks was unable to play the following two FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Grand Slams and the recent FIVB Beach Volleyball World Champions Mazury 2013 because he was carrying a thigh injury.

He was hoping to make his comeback at a tournament where he has won a gold medal and two bronzes.

The Gstaad Grand Slam is the fifth Grand Slam of 10 on the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The tournament begins with women’s qualifying on Tuesday, July 9 and ends with women’s and men’s medal matches on Sunday July 14.
