Nummerdor’s stats signal return to form

Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 4, 2013 – Reinder Nummerdor has served notice that he and Richard Schuil are not too far off their best form despite the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 only being their third tournament since coming back from retirement.

The pair stepped away from the sport following their fourth place finish at the London 2012 Olympic Games and having won gold medals at the Beijing Grand Slam and Klagenfurt Grand Slams that year.

After missing the first three tournaments of 2013, the 36-year-old Nummerdor and 40-year-old Schuil began to miss the sport too much, so returned to the court at The Hague Grand Slam and then competed a week later at the Rome Grand Slam.

At Mazury 2013 they lost their opening match against Sweden’s Hannes Brinkborg and Stefan Gunnarsson, but returned to form against Switzerland’s Philip Gabathuler and Jonas Weingart in no small part thanks to Nummerdor’s 22 successful spikes, which takes his total to 51, the best in the men’s tournament so far.

In the women’s tournament Slovakia’s Natalia Dubovcova will need to continue her dominant form when she and Dominika Nestarcova take on Brazilian sisters Carol and Maria-Clara Salgado in the round of 32.
