Men’s Round of 32 fixed, women advance to Round of 16

 
Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 4, 2013 - An incredible day of results and action as a number of women’s top seeds were knocked out of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 in Stare Jablonki, Poland while the men completed pool play to determine the 32 teams to advance to the knockout phase.



In scorching conditions the likes of Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands saw their top seeded teams go out of the competition with top seeds Xue-Zhang Xi CHN beating the impressive Antonelli-Agatha BRA in an outstanding come-from-behind win.



The men’s teams to advance to the Round of 32 were also confirmed following the competition of pool play. Friday sees the women’s Round of 16 and quarterfinals take place alongside the men’s Round of 32.



Women’s review - Ludwig and Walkenhorst knock out year’s leading side

Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst needed to be at their best to knock out Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima, the year’s leading side, from the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 on Thursday. Despite being their first year as a team Talita and Lima already have three Grand Slam gold medals under their belts so far this year, including from the Rome Grand Slam, the last tournament on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour before the World Championships. More



Men’s review - Spain’s Herrera and Gavira upset Brazil to win the pool
Spain's Pablo Herrera has made an impressive start to his sixth FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. After months of recovering from knee surgery and only two events to prepare, the Olympic silver medallist and his partner Adrian Gavira booked their third straight win to top the pool on Thursday. Herrera and Gavira upset Brazil’s golden pair Pedro Solberg and Bruno Oscar Schmidt 2-0 (21-17 21-18) in their final pool match. More



Women’s preview - Austrian pairs set to meet in round of 16

Austria will be guaranteed a team in the women's quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013, but one of either Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger or Barbara Hansel and Katharina Schutzenhofer will be eliminated following their clash in the round of 16. More



Men’s preview - Drawn on the fourth of July

The United States’ two leading teams Sean Rosenthal and Phil Dalhausser and Casey Patterson and Jacob Gibb were drawn together in the first knockout round of the men’s competition at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 on Thursday. More  

Van Dorsten getting to grips with life on the beach

Michiel van Dorsten is not taking a low-key start to life as a beach volleyball player. Having made his FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour debut at The Hague Grand Slam less than a month ago, the Dutchman is now appearing at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 alongside Tim Oude Elferink, who is quickly helping pick up the nuances of his new sport. Venezuelan beach volleyball benefits from Igor and Fane’s success story

Igor Hernandez and Jesus Villafane were the first beach volleyball players from Venezuela to participate in the Olympic Games last year in London. They finished 19th and this week at their first FIVB World Championships they booked another success by advancing to the elimination rounds with two wins in pool play. More  

Nummerdor’s stats signal return to form

Reinder Nummerdor has served notice that he and Richard Schuil are not too far off their best form despite the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 only being their third tournament since coming back from retirement. The pair stepped away from the sport following their fourth place finish at the London 2012 Olympic Games and having won gold medals at the Beijing Grand Slam and Klagenfurt Grand Slams that year. More



The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 takes place every two years. The event in Stare Jablonki runs from July 1 to 7 with the women’s finals on Saturday and men’s finals on Sunday.
