Kadziola and Szalankiewicz carrying a nations hopes

Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 5, 2013 – Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz will be trying to keep the hopes of the host nation alive after they became the only Polish side to reach the men’s round of 16 that takes place on Saturday at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013.

They will now play Germany’s Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik in the next round after defeating Austria’s Daniel Mullner and Jorg Wutzl on a day in which the other three Polish men’s teams were knocked out.

Two former world champions meet in another of the round of 16 match. Ricardo Santos, who won in 2003 and his current partner Alvaro Filho take on 2007 champion Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal, who is eyeing his first major title.

Spain’s renaissance man Pablo Herrera and his teammate Adrian Gavira take on their rivals from across the Mediterranean, Italy’s Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai. Both sides are in good form with unbeaten records in the tournament, so will need to be at their best if they are to make the quarterfinals.

Isaac Kapa and Christopher McHugh will have to hit new heights if they want to keep their impressive run going. The Australians face Brazil’s Pedro Salgado and Bruno Oscar Schmidt, who are starting to hit form at just the right time.
