Borger and Evandro proving to be aces in the pack

Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 3, 2013 – Karla Borger and Evandro Goncalves have already begun to show their serving prowess, with the pair leading women’s and men’s serving at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013.

Borger has continued her excellent from the Rome Grand Slam, where she was named smart player of the tournament, by serving 11 aces in her and Britta Buthe’s first two matches. The German duo now face a clash to decide who tops their pool against Italian’s Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti after both pairs won their first two fixtures.

Evandro meanwhile hammered home seven aces and helped him and Vitor Felipe to a surprise win against their fellow Brazilians and fifth seeds Pedro Salgado and Bruno Oscar Schmidt. Vitor Felipe was almost as strong with his serving, landing five in their victory.

April Ross and Whitney Pavlik’s unbeaten start to the tournament, with a pair of 2-0 victories, has been helped by the efficiency of their attack. Ross leads the hitting percentage and has killed 23 of her 25 attacks, while Pavlik is fourth best with 22 kills from 32 attacks.

Sebastian Fuchs is the leading men’s blocker with eight blocks and he needed to be at his best on day one of the men’s tournament as he and teammate Thomas Kaczmarek, a late replacement for Olympic champion Julius Brink, survived a three-set thriller.
