All to play for as women’s pool play draws to a close

Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 2, 2013 – Teams will be jostling for position as the final matches in women’s pool play as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013 take place on Wednesday.

A number of sides have already won two from two and will want a third to go into the elimination rounds full of confidence, while others will be seeking the best result possible to secure as good a placing as they can for the first single elimination round of 32 that takes place on Friday.

Pool F features a clash between two sides that have won both matches so far when Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Agatha Bednarczuk meet Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst of Germany. It is a similar scenario in Pool H when Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Greta Cicolari play another German pair in Britta Buthe and Karla Borger.

Brazil’s Talita Antunes and Tainan Lima and first seeds Chen Xue and Zhang Xi meanwhile are two of the sides that will be trying to add a second victory to their names, having already suffered one loss so far at Mazury 2013.

The Brazilians take on The Netherlands’ Jolien Sinnema and Michelle Stiekema, while China’s Xue and Zhang Xi face Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of Slovakia.

The women’s competition continues on Wednesday with another round of pool play. After the final round on Wednesday 32 teams, the first and second ranked in each pool and the top eight third ranked teams, advance to the elimination phase. The semifinals and medal matches are scheduled for Saturday. The men’s competition is one day behind and concludes on Sunday.
