Brazil and Netherlands withdraw from Shanghai Grand Slam

Lausanne,
Switzerland, April 29, 2013 – Olympic men’s silver medallists Alison Cerutti
and Emanuel Rego of Brazil have withdrawn from the second consecutive event of
this season due to an injury received by Alison to his little finger on his
left hand.

Having already
missed the season opening Fuzhou
Open
last week, the 2011 world champions won’t be playing at the Shanghai
Grand Slam
, which starts on Tuesday.

It's not the first
time Alison has injured himself at the start of a year. In 2012 he had to pull
out of the Brasilia Open after damaging his forearm during a match.

Reserve team Vitor
Gonçalves Felipe and Evandro Gonçalves Oliveira Júnior enter the Main Draw,
joining Brazilian compatriots Pedro Solberg Salgado and Bruno Oscar Schmidt,
and Ricardo Alex Costa Santos and Álvaro Morais Filho while Hevaldo Sabino
Moreira and Thiago Santos Barbosa will compete in
the qualification tournament
.

The Dutch duo Jon
Stiekema and Christiaan Varenhorst have also pulled out of the Shanghai Grand
Slam because of Stiekema’s broken little finger on his right hand suffered in a
match during the Fuzhou Open.

As the best ranked
nation in the Qualification Tournament - apart from Brazil and Germany who
already had three teams in the Main Draw - Switzerland (Sebastian Chevallier
and Mats Kovatschmove) move from qualifying to the Main Draw to replace the
Dutch team, because the Netherlands had no reserve team.
