World champs Agatha & Barbara post second Rio Olympic win

 
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 8, 2016 - With a highly-charged crowd supporting their effort at the “Coliseu on Copacabana” here Monday morning, Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas of Brazil overcame early deficits to Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug of Argentina to win their second Pool B Beach Volleyball match at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In meeting the Argentineans for the 11th-time internationally, Agatha and Barbara posted their eighth win over Gallay and Klug with a 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) victory in 40 minutes.  This past Saturday, the Brazilians defeated Barbora Hermannova and Marketa Slukova of the Czech Republic 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 15-11) in their first Copacabana match.

In the first set, Gallay and Klug held a 4-3 lead before Agatha and Barbara responded with a seven-point run to make it 10-4 Brazil.  In the second set, Argentina led 9-6 and then were down 12-9 after a six-point run by the Brazilians.  In the match, Brazil had 10 service winners with eight by Barbara.

Gallay and Klug, the 2015 PanAmerican champions, are now 0-2 in the competition with an opening Pool B setback to Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez of Spain 2-0 (21-11, 21-19) in 40 minutes.  The Argentineans conclude their pool schedule Wednesday against Hermannova and Slukova with Barbara and Agatha playing the Spaniards.
